Important Details About Entry to Canada And Visa
If you are planning to attend one of our human resource management conferences in Canada, you must have a valid Canadian visa (TRV or eTA). If that is the situation, you must either submit an online application or visit your nearest Canadian embassy or consulate to obtain a Canadian visa (TRV).
Please note that some countries are exempted from getting a visa (TRV) in order to be allowed into Canada. All they need to do is go through the Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) process. Hence, you should check whether you require a Visa (TRV) or are eligible to apply for an eTA to attend the conference of your choosing.
If you are working or studying in Canada now, you can attend our conference, as Canadian territory does not require a visa for attending a conference. In such case, all the participant has to do is register for one of our conferences and obtain an invitation for the get together.
Temporary Resident Visa (TRV) Application Process
For those who are not citizens of Canada or do not have a Canadian passport, a temporary resident visa (TRV) (except those who are eligible for eTA) is required to enter Canada. You will need to apply for the visa at your local Canadian embassy or consulate for a temporary resident visa (TRV). In that case, you can complete registration online, or you can visit the embassy in person with the necessary documents.
To attend the conference in Canada, you have to submit an official invitation letter and other travel documents, including travel history, proof of finance, accommodations, etc. Once you have completed the registration with these documents, you will have to go through a waiting period.
In general, visa applications are assessed case-by-case and depending on the embassy’s workload. For that reason, it would be wise to apply for a visa about 12 weeks before starting the conference. This way, you will have enough time to get a decision about your visa approval and prepare for the conference.
Note that having a special event code on the conference invitation letter provided by the IRCC won’t impact your visa decision. The special code actually helps immigration officers to recognize the event. So, you should focus on fulfilling the other criteria when applying for a visa to enter Canada.
Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) Application Process
As of November 10, 2016, visa-exempt foreign nationals are no longer required to have a temporary resident visa (TRV). They will have to go through the Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) program to enter Canada. For example, if you are a citizen of the United States of America or any other eTA eligible country, you can enter Canada by any mode of travel—plane, car, bus, train or cruise ship. In that case, you will just have to follow some simple steps before booking your flight:
- Complete the online form with the correct information based on your passport.
- Once you complete the online form, pay $7 Canadian dollars and get confirmation mail within minutes.
Note: Although most eTA applications are approved within minutes, sometimes it may take longer. Besides, in some cases, you may have to submit additional documents against your travel. In that case, you will get a mail with instructions for submission within 72 hours of the eTA application.
Visit Canada With Minor Children
If you want to enter Canada with your minor children (under 18 years of age), your children have to follow the same rules as you. Your children will need a separate visa in their passport to enter Canada with you. Along with the passport, you will need to keep some other documents with you. The necessary documents are the birth certificate and a letter of authorization. Additionally, you have to be prepared to answer some questions asked by the immigration officers when entering Canada.
Visa Application Process for Business Visitors to Canada

- Purpose of the travel (Conference, event, expo, etc.)
- Date of the event
- Name and contact details of the participant
- Details about who hosts the conference or event
- Special event code provided by IRCC (if have any)
